I am a list-maker, not a creator of content. I accept this about myself. To that end, I want a website or piece of software with which I can catalog all the media I own -- books, DVDs, audio tapes, even MP3 files.

I'm looking through stuff on SourceForge, but most of what seems applicable seems written for full-on lending libraries. I just want something to track my own library without worrying about borrowers nor lenders be.

I think I maxed out my free account there without even trying. $25 for life isn't bad, I guess.

Yeah, I have a paid account. Worth $25 bucks just for the fun of entering everything!

And as for just DVDs, there's DVD Profiler which I kinda love, but kinda hate because they want money for ALL the features. The free version does most of what I need.

Collectorz.com has what you want, but it does cost money. I have only the book portion myself, cuz I started out with DVDProfiler and love that too much to switch my DVDs to Collectorz. I use MediaMonkey to keep track of my MP3s. (That is free, though I paid for the gold edition or whatever.) Oh, regarding Collectorz, I also bought the barcode reader. I am SUCH a geek. ;-)

I was astonished when another cataloging app I came across, Readerware, offered a free barcode reader if you buy their entire software bundle. I considered it for about a second, I'm sorry to say.

I don't know about a place that would catalog all of those things together, but I use DVDSpot for my movie collection, and it works well enough. 'Course, it took me a while to understand that the people on the message boards are less than interested in talking about stuff that interests me with me (we had one of them old fashioned Internet falling-outs, so to speak), but that doesn't stop the usefulness of the site itself.

Here's the main page: http://www.dvdspot.com

Oh, that's hot, too. And it's on the web, which is super-hot. I'm really coming to love web-based applications. I'm trying to get myself in the habit of doing most of my typing in Google Docs.
