"Pity about the scarf. Madame Nostradamus knit it for me."
Way back at the end of last winter -- February or March 2006 -- I started on a portion of the Season 12 Doctor Who scarf, using Brown Sheep sport weight wool and the pattern from www.doctorwhoscarf.com. I finished it in May or so, half-heartedly blocked it and decided it was way too long for casual wear. That one languished in the closet until this Christmas, when I dropped in the annual hat, mitten and scarf collection drive at work. Wherever it went, I hope the recipient is enjoying it.

Afterwards, I still had a considerable amount of yarn left kicking around my closet. Sometime in October, I decided to take a second stab at the project and make a scarf I could wear comfortably. I finished that one only a couple days before I donated the first. Towards the end, right where you see the three ribs of off-white/grey, I was running perilously low on some colors, so I went off the pattern and used the colors of which I had extra, to be sure to have enough for tassels.

This time, I blocked it properly, pinning it down to a long series of flattened cardboard boxes taped together. Lucky for me, it stretched to just the right length during blocking to be long without too much bother -- though it's still a challenge to tie my shoes.

Behind the cut are some pictures I just took. This was done on #5 needles with Brown Sheep 100% sport weght, except for the burgundy/purple, which was some fancy pants yarn I had to get from the local place. It really is my favorite color in the scarf, I think. The red is really red and not as orangey as the flash makes it look. If I were to do another of these, I'd be sure to get a darker, more bricky red. This is more like caution or stop sign red.
