I recently subscribed to a newsfeed of a blog called Lifehacker. The articles usually talk about improving productivity, or hacking software or hardware for new uses. Some of the articles have put the thought in my head of setting up a proper domain of my own and running some blog software.
Now, I have no reason to do so. I mainly have a blog because I like reading about my friends' lives, and most of my friends happen to have LiveJournal blogs. I have a serious dearth of the material that an independent blog would need to make it worth anyone's time to read.
By all logic, it makes far more sense for me to focus on creating content and just putting it up here. This is still a blog in the end, even if it exists at the mercy of some faceless foreign corporation. Any blog I put up anywhere else would ultimately exist at the whim of someone else for as long as they choose to remain in business. But still, I find myself thinking more about buying a domain and webspace than I do creating the content I would put there. It's very distressing that I'm so creatively over-drawn.
